Hello! Mabuhay! Nei hou! It feels good to be back in the keyboard again, I missed the chiclet sound! Recently, mom and I just got back from two international trips. Honestly, we both learned a lot about each other and how we handle situations. However, on a good note, we also acquired few hacks that can make your trip smooth for the rest of your stay.
1. DO YOUR ONLINE CHECK-IN BEFORE YOU PROCEED TO THE AIRPORT
Most airlines are already offering online check-in or popularly known as web check-in. This is such a huge time saver for those who did not purchase check-in baggage since you can already instantly print your boarding pass. If the country of your destination doesn't require visa, you can already go straight to your gate. But, if you do have to drop your baggage for check-in, there's a special lane for web-check in passengers. You won't have to wait for the super long lines just for you to check-in your luggage bags.
2. YOU CAN NOW PAY YOUR TRAVEL TAX ONLINE
For Philippine Passport, we are required to pay travel tax before we can travel abroad. Finally, after years and years of manual payment, you can now pay your travel tax online. Here's the website you need to check "Pay Travel Tax Online" . Just register your name and check your email for verification and you can pay your travel tax online using your credit card. Although sometimes the site does have a little problem with accepting payments nonetheless this could also save time for your international trip. Rather than waiting in line for hours, you can probably relax and sip a cup of joe before flying to your desired destination.
3. DOWNLOAD LOCAL MOBILE APPLICATIONS TO MAKE YOUR TRIP EASIER
We can proudly say that we survived our seoul trip by downloading subway mobile application. It was really a big help that we have a mobile copy of the subway map, also the app teaches foreigner how to navigate themselves just in case they want to travel to a specific city. In Hong kong, you can also download the MTR which can also give you the estimate time of arrival of the train and what time is the last train going back. Mom and I opted to use their everyday mode of transportation as it will give us more time to explore the place and at the same time get in feel of their culture and local practice. There are other applications that are quite handy for your travel as well.
4. BOOK YOUR TOUR ONLINE FOR DISCOUNTS
This is my second time in Hong Kong disneyland but this is my first time booking it online. Apparently, some third party websites offer disneyland passes for a cheaper price. BUT you have to know which sites are real and fake. In our recent trip to Hong Kong, we booked our disneyland ticket through the website KLOOK. Mom and I are happy that we got our ticket for a cheaper price and at the same time we skipped the long lines at the ticketing booth because disneyland offers self printing ticketing booths for people who bought online. A for efficiency! Most of the tours can be booked online, you just have to read some reviews about the website. Always be careful in booking and in giving credit card details.
5. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CREDIT CARD AND MILES MEMBERSHIP
There are selected bank credit cards that offer free access with airline lounges locally and international. Instead of waiting at your gate with zero seat, you can check your credit card if there are special privileges available for you. Also, every time you fly, make sure you credit your points with your miles. Thankfully, I've been an elite mabuhay miler and I honestly get so many privileges because of flying with the same airline. We can get lounge access with food and wifi, special lane for boarding, priority for business class upgrade et al. So whether it is a low cost airline or expensive airline, never ever forget to credit your points. Not only you can get special privileges, you can also use your points to fly for free.
These are just few hacks we learned, if you know any feel free to share it with me. I would be very glad to your what you think.
